July 2017 Projects
This time I'm really gonna stick to the plan. Really. Truly. I have goals. But first I should probably look at last month's goals...
• Underbodice pattern for green and peach silk bliaut
• Dye green linen for K's Persian garb (long sleeved coat and salwar)
• Dye yellow linen for K's Persian garb (short sleeved coat)
• Stamp orange silk for K's Persian garb (long sleeved coat)
• Resist stamp and dye blue silk for K's Persian garb (short sleeved coat)
• K's green and yellow striped silk salwar
• Patterns for K's Persian garb (salwar, short sleeved coat, long sleeved coat)
• Cut and punch red plates for lamellar coat
•Make coral poppy sundress
• Reshape and pad helm
And the June goals: finish the skirt trim for the bliaut (which entails doing the patterning and fabric allotment for different sections); cut, punch, wax and stitch lamellar coat; finish the coral poppy sundress; get K's salwar patterned.
Well. Uh. I went to Hawai'i?
And learned that One Should Not Embroider While Jet Lagged. The angle of that photo actually disguises the problem quite a bit, but my chain stitch lines wandered about half an inch away from the blue guide stitches. That was going to look bad, so when I realized (two feet into the errant line) I sat at the kitchen table (grumbling to myself quietly so as not to disturb the piercing beauty of the sun rising over mist-shrouded mountains) and snipped each. individual. stitch. to pull them out. Such is the nature of chain stitch.
All that meant that while I've completed four yards of skirt trim, that's all I have, because I already learned One Should Not Embroider While Angry. I also haven't touched the patterning for K's new garb, which I really ought to do so I can dye the fabric—that would be so satisfying to knock off the list.
As far as non-list things go...I finished the rope bed frame I started ages ago! Now I just need to save up the money for a mattress that will fit it better; my conventional one doesn't quite work. Also, the flea infestation is coming under control, between daily vacuuming and cat combing, and some intense bug spray. That counts as a project. And I finished the singles I've been spinning since January, too; still deciding whether I want to attempt plying on the wheel or just stick to spindling.

So for July: Really truly this time, finish the skirt trim and determine the exact hem circumference of the green and peach silk bliaut. Pattern K's Persian garb and dye his fabrics (at least the solid ones. The stamped and resisted stuff may take longer). Finish my body armour, good lord, it's been a year, Sabine. The big thing there is that I need to lace some existing plates together and calculate the surface area I want to cover so I can figure out how many plates of red leather I need to fill out the coat.
