Coral Poppy Sundress

Working on a sundress pattern I’d like to have done in time for vacation—and of course, I quipped that it would be amusing to be finishing it on the plane, and now I really really want to do that. Because it would be hilarious.

A series of sundress sketches in black pen, all with short, full skirts and low, fairly square necklines. Each option is accompanied by a number of bulleted notes.
That bottom design is almost certainly coming back someday, because I love the back detail.
I'm going with the halter design in the middle for this one;while I like the sleeves of the top design, I don't think those tiny gathers will work well with the fabric, and the box pleats just aren't singing to me. Besides, I think the scalloped hem I'm envisioning will be adorable.

Bright coral fabric with an allover design of scattered orange poppy flowers, and a textural stripe running diagonally across the fabric.
It's so delightfully bright. I love it.
The fabric I’ve had in my stash for about three years now, but I’ve never quite been satisfied with my ideas for it. It’s fairly thin, but has a lot of body, so I decided to minimize the gathered areas on the dress to an accent at the center neck and a little bit at the waistline to set the (gored) skirt. I’m also definitely doing a deep self facing on the hem to take advantage of the fabric’s qualities and to help hold the skirt out in the belled shape I’m imagining. I have four yards of 44-inch fabric, so it should be more than enough for my purposes—even if I need four yards for the skirt, it's a short dress, so I can fit the pieces into two linear yards of fabric.
