Bliaut Sleeves

A disembodied arm holding out an inside-out green triangular sleeve in a dimly-lit basement room.
Never mind the pajamas.
I’ve cut the pieces for my green linen bliaut and begun pinning them together, starting with the sleeves. This would be great, except—see the picture? Where the sleeve drape goes basically to my armpit? That’s not really an accurate sleeve style (like, at all) and I don’t know why I didn’t notice when I took that picture, while the pieces were only pinned, but now I have a beautifully sewn sleeve that is nothing like a bliaut sleeve.

A green triangular sleeve laid out on a wood floor, with a pinned line transforming it into a slim upper sleeve with a long draping cuff.
I helped make that floor, too, actually. That went a lot smoother than this sleeve.
Exhibit B is (hopefully) the solution. I’m going to stitch just inside the line of pins to create a much more fitted upper arm and fix the shape of the sleeve drape, and then I’ll cut and fell that seam. I think I can get away with just cutting the original seam as long as I sew that area nice and tight—sleeves don’t have to stand up to much abuse.

In short, pay attention to your references! Or at least don’t do the bulk of your planning and sewing between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. It leads to poor decisions and crying.
