An Indian woman walking down carpeted stairs, seen from behind and above, in a pale pinksari with heavy pearl beading around the fabric edges and sequins all over, and a sheer white veil pinned into her half-up, shoulder-length hair. She's just holding the right edge of the trailing pallu, holding it out from her body.
At last, I can reveal Bananabella's Christmas present: a completely hand-stitched, beaded, sequined wedding sari, made with tremendous amounts of love and assistance from a whole village of people. We cleaned out the entirety of eastern Kansas of the particular beads we were using for the borders, spent hours and hours and hours stitching them on one by one, and roped in everyone who dared even stand in the same room looking less than busy. I think the final count of helpers is nine, which includes stitchers, couriers, bead-gatherers...

A young Indian woman in a pale pink sari and blouse with long, sheer sleeves, standing on beige carpeted stairs looking up at the photographer. She's grinning broadly, with her right hand up to brush her shoulder-length hair forward, and wearing a pearl and diamond necklace and earrings. The pallu trails behind her on the landing.
So very worth the time. Look at that face.

Short list this month, because there's a very large project (again, but bigger) on the horizon. Stay tuned. It's gonna be loud and bright and complex.
