August 2017 Projects

It's already August and frankly, I was not prepared for that eventuality. I have gotten quite a bit done, though, so that's satisfying...it just isn't anything really on the list.

The July List

• Embroidered trim for green and peach silk bliaut
• Underbodice pattern for green and peach silk bliaut
• Dye green linen for K's Persian garb (long sleeved coat and salwar)
• Dye yellow linen for K's Persian garb (short sleeved coat)
• Stamp orange silk for K's Persian garb (long sleeved coat)
• Resist stamp and dye blue silk for K's Persian garb (short sleeved coat)
• K's green and yellow striped silk salwar
• Patterns for K's Persian garb (salwar, short sleeved coat, long sleeved coat)
• Cut and punch red plates for lamellar coat
• Reshape and pad helm

July goals: Finish the skirt trim, determine the hem circumference for the green and peach silk bliaut. Pattern K's Persian garb and dye his fabrics. Finish body armour.

A piece of dark brown fabric laid out on deep green grass, with four lines of gold scrolling oak leaf embroidery across the top, and two vertical lines of the same pattern about a quarter in from the left edge.
This is from earlier in the weekend. Imagine there's more gold on there, to the left of the existing vertical panels.

The skirt trim is done!! And so is three-quarters of the sleeve hem trim, which means in about three days I'll need to actually finish the underbodice pattern so I know exactly how long to make the trim for the upper arms. Unfortunately I haven't touched the patterns for K's garb, nor dyed any fabric for it, nor really done anything with the armour. I put a little test patch together...and learned that I'll need to re-punch some of the holes in my plates to allow me to lace them...but that's all.

However. I decided about halfway through the month that I wanted to have the green and peach silk bliaut done for Queen's Prize this year, on September 16th. Mostly I think this means I'm not likely to get work done on really anything else, what with finishing the embroidery and weaving the waistband and sewing an entire very large dress, but I'd still like to get K's garb patterned. Once the embroidery's done—or even while finishing it—I may make that my second priority, as a break from complex stitching and a different sort of design challenge.

And in other not-list-news, I plied up some yarn for Bananabella to use on her inaugural SCA project (mwahahaha), and cleaned large portions of my small apartment, and finished the trim that's been on my loom since at least January, and made a number of tasty meals. And plotted the next insane project.

The August List

• Embroidered trim for green and peach silk bliaut
• Underbodice pattern for green and peach silk bliaut
• Construct green and peach silk bliaut
• Weave half waistband for green and peach silk bliaut
• Dye green linen for K's Persian garb (long sleeved coat and salwar)
• Dye yellow linen for K's Persian garb (short sleeved coat)
• Stamp orange silk for K's Persian garb (long sleeved coat)
• Resist stamp and dye blue silk for K's Persian garb (short sleeved coat)
• K's green and yellow striped silk salwar
• Patterns for K's Persian garb (salwar, short sleeved coat, long sleeved coat)
• Cut and punch red plates for lamellar coat
• Reshape and pad helm

August goals: Finish the embroidered trim (including the collar), finish the underbodice pattern, construct the sleeves and bodice, and attach the skirt. Set up and weave half the waistband. Pattern K's Persian garb and dye his fabrics.

The armour stuff is staying on the list as something I'd like to have done sooner rather than later, but I'm not going to focus on it this month. For one thing, we won't be having practice for half the month, and for another, I have no desire to keep the stove on for hours while I wax plates in the middle of summer. Also, I'm Sad about not having thought to double-check the hole size while I was punching the first time around, and it's going to be in time out until I'm not Sad about it anymore.
